Summary/Abstract: The active promotion of Canadian cultural products does not constitute a large-scale national policy on the part of the majority of institutions. This lack of vision makes Canadian artists virtually unknown in provinces other than their own or internationally, their talent being perceived as of lesser importance due to the lack of state support. However, as tourism reports have established for decades, the cultural offering serves as an important engine for the economic flourishing of a country. This article discusses the ambitious vision of Canadian nation-building via the arts.
