Summary/Abstract: Based on an analysis conducted using historical, anthropological and prosopographical approaches to numerous examples of diverse international contacts of BSU scientists in 1921—1941 their main directions and forms are highlighted and systematized: creative business trips of teaching staff to scientific and educational centers of the USSR and abroad for advanced training; participation of BSU scientists in scientific events at universities and research institutes of the West; inviting European colleagues to Minsk to participate in various scientific events, including all-Belarusian conferences; the demand for publications of Belarusian authors abroad and their publication activity in European journals; priorities in relation to teaching foreign languages; replenishment of the BSU library, both with state and foreign literature through direct book exchange, and thanks to the interested assistance of many representatives of the professoriate and teachers; foreign material and financial assistance; entering of modern world trends in the training of specialists in the curricula and programs of subjects in both natural sciences and humanities. It is noted that specific scientific connections were based on the personal authority of one or another Belarusian scientist, as well as on the fairly rapid growth of the authority of the entire BSU team. Although the participation of prominent representatives of the BSU team in foreign scientific forums was carried out also as part of union delegations, such foreign contacts were primarily due to the authority of BSU scientists both among foreign and their own, Soviet, colleagues. It is concluded that the formation and transformation of international cooperation of the first university in Belarus took place in conjunction with a constantly changing internal and external socio-political situation and under conditions of dominance of power structures.
