Summary/Abstract: The article considers the stages of formation of the national state in the Belarusian territories of the Russian Empire destroyed by revolutions of 1917. It is claimed that at the same time there was a process of creation of the state university which was perceived by his creators — politicians and intellectuals — an indispensable, prime form of the embodiment of the Belarusian statehood. The university has been conceived and realized as «Belarusian» and as «state». It is proved that both representatives of the Belarusian intelligentsia and generally Russian politicians, scientists, teachers took part in the formation of the Belarusian statehood and the university environment. It is noted that some time (in 1919—1922) both the created university and the Belarusian republic were understood more as «Russian» but in the «Soviet» embodiment.
