Summary/Abstract: The article investigates several aspects of Romanian fixed expressions containing proper names in order to approach the thorny issue of their translation into English. After surveying some features of proper names and fixed expressions that may prove relevant in translation theory and practice, a corpus of Romanian samples is assembled and discussed. The purpose of the analysis is to underline the linguistic, functional and cultural dimensions of such expressions and to suggest possible translation strategies.
