Summary/Abstract: During the symposium about historiography regarding the history of cities it is necessary to present the research concerning the evolution of urban centers in Romania in the last century. We have brought into discussion the studies and volumes published in the last two decades because through this scientific session we are celebrating two decades since the inauguration of the Towns History Commission in Romania and the Historia Urbana journal. A series of monographs on cities, which also include their evolution in the 20th century, have been published during this period. Volumes of documents, chronologies, bibliographies, historical atlases, which are very useful work instruments for researching the history of cities from the last century, came out as well. Other papers presented the life of cities thematically: industry, commerce, banks, culture, churches, everyday life, social life etc. Generally, one could say that significant progress has been made in knowing and understanding the development of urban centers from the past century. Although many memoir volumes and studies about various aspects of urban life during the communist regime have been published, historians must pay greater attention to this period. They should also write a synthesis about urban centers in Romania in the 20th century and thus contribute to the development of a treatise on the history of cities since their emergence up to today.
