THE CULTURAL EXILES

Summary/Abstract: In multicultural societies like Bosnia the group political identity in its “strong communitarian version” not only generates a non-tolerant will toward the outsiders, it inevitably leads toward the oppression of group members themselves. Instead like free individuals, many citizens feel rather like “cultural exiles”. The alleged right of cultural groups to exercise a full sovereignty over their members, no matter how they actually treat them, is unacceptable. It is an extorted right. Such groups usually produce intolerant individuals incapable of peaceful and harmonious co-existence with others.
