Summary/Abstract: Given the present ‘revival of religion’ in the contemporary, thoroughly plural world, the topic of secularism (especially of ‘morality of secularism’) receives a crucial importance. The essay discusses the primordial character of religion and the role of religious discourse and religious convictions in democracy and political debate. The thesis that secular morality and religious convictions are thoroughly incommensurable is questioned. The author believes that correctly interpreted religion (besides politics and moral) may be viewed as providing help for social integration and forming morally anchored individuals and citizens.
