Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to provide a general background on the political and socio-economic situation of Croatia, which became the 28th member state of the European Union on 1 July 2013. The author first discusses the political, social and economical features of the country. Next, she introduces the issues related to EU membership, including accession requirements, negotiation process and prospects for the future.
