Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to provide a general background on the political and socio-economic situation of Serbia. Just recently (December 2015) Serbia opened the first chapters in EU membership negotiations. The author discusses current political situation in Serbia, condition of its economy, main social problems and key events in the EU accession negotiations.
