Summary/Abstract: The article shows the problem of defining the contemporary Western intellectual that was thoroughly studied by Frankfurt school of the social re-search in the XX century. Analyzing society its representatives pointed out the role of intellectual that doubted and actively criticized «one-dimensional person» (G. Markuze), pointed out the politicized intellectual (V. Benjamin), «that was able to see the important thing» (Y. Habermas)
