Summary/Abstract: The article presents an ethnomethodological study of the computer programs for synchronous communication in the Internet and tries to problematise them as a field of interaction. Specific characteristics of the chat-space are pointed out: heterotopicality, a performativity generated by the language milieu, multiple identities. Contrasting this to the face-to-face situation, the authors bring forth the thesis of the cyberspace as neutralizing the normative orders of the 'living' everyday life and, in the final account, as generating postmodern strategies of resistance.
