Photographic Documentation of Podhorce Castle in the Tarnów Collection

Summary/Abstract: This article analyses a set of 150 glass negatives and prints by Stefan Zaborowski from 1909-10 which are kept at the Diocese Archives and the District Museum in Tarnów. They present the architecture and interior furnishing of the 17th century castle in Podhorce (Pidhirci), presently in Ukraine (formerly Eastern Galicia). The photographs were taken during two summer expeditions of a group of art historians from the Academy of Learning in Cracow who documented the architecture, rich interior furnishing and castle collections for a monograph that was never published. Presently, these photographs are a valuable iconographic source, since the castle’s furnishing has been dispersed or destroyed and its architecture devastated to a considerable degree.
