Summary/Abstract: This paper looks at Chicano English, a variety of American English spoken in the Southwestern part of the United States. Some phonological and morpho-syntactic properties of this variety are described. Also discussed is the phenomenon known as Spanglish, a blend of English and Spanish. It will be shown that Chicano English is a dialect and it exists independent of bilingualism whilst Spanglish is code-mixing.
