Topics for this research are the quantitative techniques developed via modern portfolio theory to assess portfolio performance. The main conclusion in the article is that Bulgarian low-risk collective investment schemes have a relatively better performance in terms of the financial crisis. However, this is due more to their investment profile than to the effective management of their portfolios. Thus, in terms of the financial crisis, investors can apply managerial diversification to reduce the overall investment risk.
