Mass media study in the context of the 2007 local elections

Summary/Abstract: This text is a review of the brochure, «Media monitoring: the 2007 local election reviewed by Belarusian mass media», which contains the results of the study of the elections to the local Soviets, carried out by the Belarusian Journalists’ Association. It attempts to analyze the study’s contents, the events representation in national and regional Belarusian mass media, and methodology which was used during it. It says that monitoring is one of few attempts to systematically collect and analyze information concerning the actual political events in Belarus. However, alongside with it, it reveals the presence of some methodological problems. Текст — рецензия на брошюру «Медыя-маніторынг: мясцовыя выбары — 2007 у СМІ Беларусі», изданную по выводам проведенного БАЖ исследования итогов выборов в местные советы. Автор анализирует содержание исследования, репрезентацию события в центральных и региональных беларусских СМИ и использованную при этом методологию. В статье утверждается, что мониторинг представляет собой одну из немногих попыток систематизированного сбора и анализа информации относительно актуальных политических событий в Беларуси. Однако наряду с этим отмечается наличие некоторых методологических проблем.
