Summary/Abstract: On Friday, 22nd of August, 2014, the Israelite Temple of Tulcea was inaugurated; it was a very special event for the Jewish community, because this temple does not represent only the House of God – as named often by the representatives of the community –, but also the symbol of this community, now brought to life again. The rehabilitation of the Israelite Temple of Tulcea was possible with the implication of a technical team of experts and with funding from the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania –The Mosaic Cult, “Caritatea” Foundation, Romanian Government and the Jewish community of Tulcea. From the first inauguration –1880 – until the 2014 reinauguration, this historical monument passed through several milestones. In 1985, when the Babadag Street was systematized, the land around the temple was allocated to blocks of flat. Therefore, the Temple became suffocated by buildings on both sides. Over time, the Temple of the Babadag Street has been the only building pertaining to the Jewish community to resist to the systematization process. An expert analysis conducted in 2003 found that the structural frame of the building had been seriously damaged and that the building was in danger of collapsing. In 2010, the works began for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Temple building; the works were finalized this year.
