Reasons and prerequisites for the establishment of a Local Urban Observatory for monitoring urban development of Sarajevo

Summary/Abstract: This research examines relevant documents prepared by the international community agencies, B-H, Sarajevo Canton and City of Sarajevo institutions with purpose of testing the hypothesis framework. We assumed that urban development proposal subjects of City of Sarajevo, decisions and strategies implementation makers have no access to data and information for relevant forecasts of future quality of life in all segments. It is necessary to improve the present situation using experiences from all over the world, own knowledge with coordinated efforts by all actors, and further research. Research has confirmed the main hypothesis that it is necessary to constitute the urban development managing institution (Local Urban Observatory-LUO) capable of creating and developing urban indicator system for observing the implementation of urban development strategy, and aimed at improving life quality. This work has resulted in some new conclusions: there is passive relationship to the signed international documents in implementing process, and suggestion is to change it. It will be better to manage strategic projects from one observatory for at least two reasons: establishing a bank of knowledge and other resources and coordination in achieving the development aims.
