Factors of uncertainty in tourism and their impact on the economic performance in public sector spa companies

Summary/Abstract: The article establishes the need of study of impact of the uncertainty factors on the results of the management of the Polish enterprises in the tourism spa sector. The starting point for consideration was the analysis of the modern state of research on uncertainties in tourism and the cumulative knowledge available in the papers review, mainly in English literature. The first part of the article includes the description of the main problems (the concept, level of research, methodology, study work) coming in the discussion of researchers over the uncertainties in tourism, price fluctuated uncertainty, instruments of measurement and modeling of uncertainty and the conclusions of the research study. The conducted analysis shows greater concentration of research on the determinants of uncertainty of tourism limited quantity, and on factors of uncertainty affecting tourist demand – the themes of choice of destination for the tourist, with preference for the weather uncertainty. The observed unsatisfied research on the effects of uncertainty on the economic situation of the tourist company gave assumption to emphasize how the revenue of the spa company is affected by two selected factors of uncertainty: the weather and the risk of foreign exchange, which was illustrated with data from tourism spa enterprise from West Pomerania region.
