Summary/Abstract: According to historical sources, the founders of monastic orders used to help the Church mission. The pupils of orders used to be and are to some extent “the salt of the earth” that helps the Church to remain faithful to the teaching of Gospel. After World War II in Lithuania under soviet occupation, monasteries were destroyed and closed. Joana Juozapaitytė had to leave the University because of a political situation. Having come back home she was moved to see and feel ignorance of spiritual life. Close relations with Jesuits let her know possibilities of combining firmness, erudition, and contemplation. Joana decided to became a member of a new covent founded by Jesuit P. Masilionis. She was appointed senior of the community and because a spiritual guide of about 30 sisters. Frequent stress and danger caused early death; she died in 1980 and left about 30 active nuns. Today this community is large and has its members not only in Lithuania but also in Kazakhstan, Latvia and Moldova.
