Non-Formal Adult Learning in the Context of Personal and Professional Improvement

Summary/Abstract: The situation of non-formal adult education in Lithuania and the expression of non-formal adult studying are analyzed in the article. A survey in the form of a questionnaire (N = 100) and an interview (N = 4) were used to analyze how adults assess the expression of non-formal education on their personality and professional improvement. Descriptive analysis (frequency, frequency in percent) and a non-parametric method (Kruskal-Wallis test) were used for the analysis of research data. The results of the research revealed that adult participation in non-formal education is associated with the need for fastly changing knowledge and professional improvement. While participating in non-formal education adults deepen and update their professional knowledge, increase their possibilities on the labour market, improve themselves as personalities and satisfy the need for closer interaction with other people, spend their free time in a more interesting way, depart from daily routine and worries.
