BIBLICAL PERSONALITIES AS PROPHETS IN THE QUR’AN

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to give a short overview of the way in which some of the major biblical personalities are presented as prophets in the Qur’an. At the same time it attempts to shed some light on the topic of revelation in the Qur’an as well by pointing to its essentially prophetic nature, i.e. the importance of prophets in its transmission. This is the theme of the fi rst part of the article. In the second part it attempts to give a more detailed account of some of the major biblical personalities like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus and the way they are presented as the great prophets in the Qur’an
