FOREWORD

Summary/Abstract: The special edition “Identity, History and Culture of the Roma” pre¬sents the initial work results of the Bulgarian team in the international project Restoration of the European Dimensions of Romani Language and Culture [R.E.D. Rrom] – 2009 – 2014 (Contrat communn. 2009 – 2163 / 001 – 001 CU7 MULT7). Historians, linguists, arts and cul¬ture researchers, sociologists, directors, musicians and other experts from Hungary, France, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have joined efforts to implement the project. This special edition is a specific extension of an interdisciplinary study on the construc¬tion of Roma identity, periodically presented in the Sotsiologicheski problemi [Sociological Problems] and Nasselenie [Population/Nasselenie Review] journals. The papers in this edi¬tion are very different in nature even though all of them deal with Roma issues.
