Summary/Abstract: This text presents the history of the choir of the Metropolitan Cathedral from 1922—the year of its foundation, to the present day. The author differentiates seven different periods in the existence of this choir: 1. Founded in March 31st 1922, the Male Choir of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate in Cluj was conducted by Vasile Petraşcu, Professor Doctor (1889-1973); 2. In 1925, The Male Choir became a mixed choir. Professor Vasile Petraşcu maintained his position as conductor of the choir until November 3rd 1929; 3. Between November 3rd 1929 – February 1st 1930 Patriciu Curea, Professor Priest and close collaborator of Bishop Nicolae Ivan, was appointed conductor interim; 4. Between February 1st 1930 – September 1st 1940 choir leadership was assigned to Augustin Bena, Priest Professor Doctor (1880-1962), a notable fi gure in the Transylvanian music world; 5. During the most diffi cult time in the diocese’s history, between September 1st 1940 – May 24th 1946, the choir’s conductor was Priest Laurenţiu Curea, diocesan advisor and brother of Patriciu Curea; 6. From May 24th 1946 to December 31st 2006, choir’s leadership was assigned to Ioan Brie, Archdeacon Professor; 7. Since 1 august 2007 musical leadership of the choir was assigned by metropolitan decision to Vasile Stanciu, Priest Professor Doctor. This paper includes the biographic presentations of the succession of heads of the choir. During nearly nine decades of activity the choir has gathered true musicians holding high degrees in music studies, activating in one of the two cultural institutions in Cluj: State Philarmonic “Transilvania” and Romanian Opera
