Intelligentsia of Kostroma in public reading rooms creation in the end of the 19th — the beginning of the 20th century

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with cultural educational activity of library intelli-gentsia of Kostroma on the example of its bright representative (E. M. Mikiforov). On the basis of the printed reports of reading rooms and newspaper materials the role of intelligentsia in creation of free social librar-ies is shown. The author shows the main statistical indicators of the work of public reading rooms and analyzes their necessity and influence on local population
