Summary/Abstract: Flapper era is the age of the second and the third decade of the twentieth century when young women in the West came out from private to public domain for the first time and started to wear short hair and miniskirts, listen to jazz and dance at clubs. They smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol in public space, drove cars and had opened approach towards sexuality, opposing in that way what was considered acceptable for a female of the time. Betty Boop is a character which will touch the most characteristic topics of the time being protagonist in cartoons. Through analysis of the fashion of flapper era, literature that will mention this term for the first time and consideration of its’ meanings, in this paper, I will try to present social frames in which cartoon about Betty Boop was made. Finally, I will try to come to wider perspective of hidden meanings through the cultural and visual analysis and presentation of some of the episodes of this cartoon.
