Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes an attempt to show genre features in the perspective of a linguistic geneology — a Baroque rhyming romance and definition of its place in the universum of the contemporary education. Observations were conducted on the basis of the work by Adam Korczyński entitled Wizerunk złocistej przyjaźnią zdrady. The investigations presented in the text point to several main features of the Baroque rhyming romance understood as the phenomenon of a widely understood social communication. The observation of three selected genre levels: a structural, stylistic, and pragmatic one (extended to discourse area) proves that this type of complex reflection on an Old-Polish genological universum may give interesting results. The genre analysed turns out to be a communicative product of an important degree of polyphonicity, actually suspended between two overriding discourses basic for it: a colloquial and artistic one which combined with each other on the basis of complementariness define the map of the discourse of popular writing. And this is at the level of discourse that a peculiar combination of various genres being in the relationship of a discoursive similarity to one another takes place. There is however a problem of discourse diversification which, in this case, is also visible in particular genre features. It seems that it is above all structure and composition that differentiates a romance from facetiae. Besides, one has to point to the subject matter. In the case of a Baroque rhyming romance, plots centred around sentimental and love issues prevailed.
