Summary/Abstract: Many eastern and central European countries have to face today a phenomenon produced by the political events that took place in 1990-1991, and which led to what we call incomplete parenting. The phenomenon is created by the leaving of one or both parents to work in a different country, while the child is taken cared by the other parent or by a relative. In Romania, in 2007 there were 350 000 children in this situation (c. 7% of Romania's children). Considering the fact that in Romania the family represents the element of the micro system with the heaviest impact on child's development, our investigation wants to find out how the absence of one or both parents affects the development of the child. For this reason, we investigated a significant number of children from two Romanian counties, using specific instruments, validated on Romanian population. The results support partially the hypothesis that the incomplete parenting phenomenon influences in a negative way the development of children, in the sense of a high incidence of disruptive behavior in the school environment.
