Summary/Abstract: Management of a medical system and institutions has essentially changed in Lithuania during the last decade. Recently many discussions about the usage of complex motivation means for employees of medical institutions have developed. A practical viewpoint to employees’ motivation has become urgent. Medical institution employees in Panevėžys county are motivated by: adequate salary (40%), usage of professional competence (25%), variety and creativity of the work (20%), career making opportunities (10%). 75% of respondents pointed out that material and psychological incentives practically are not applied in medical institutions in Panevėžys county except bonuses, paid once per year before Christmas. 10% of respondents indicated transference to more interesting work. The main demotivating factors on the institutional level were: unevaluated work and uninvolvement in decision making process; on the employee level: inadequate payment for work results, unheard opinions of employees and absence of feedback.
