TOWARDS AN AUTOMATED MORPHOLOGICAL WORD ANALYZER IN THE ALBANIAN LANGUAGE IN THE FRAME OF AUTOMATIC LANGUAGE ELABORATIONS (ALE)

Summary/Abstract: Computer language deals with the study of computer systems with the intention of understanding and generating a natural language. The primary objective of research in this field is to develop special practical systems connected to the language. This study on the word status in the Albanian language within automatic language elaborations represents an effort of introducing new methods of language study and analysis in the Albanian linguistics. Word analysis is done through the use of methods of formal analysis aimed at establishing computer programs able to analyze and elaborate language texts. The aim is to realize an automatic morphological analyzer which is able to establish a necessary basis for automatic word recognition as a unit and to automatically determine grammar category, and its morphological, syntax, and semantic features. This paper is divided into two main parts. The first part deals with the study of the notion of word and problems posed by its definition as a minimal language unit. The second part, based on an analysis of a rich corpus in the Albanian language, has to do with the problems revealed by automatic recognition of the word in the Albanian language with the aim of its computer implementation. Finally, there has been a brief description of the work done in conceiving and development of electronic dictionaries for an automatic elaboration of the Albanian language within the NooJ program.
