Summary/Abstract: In onymy it is not easy to make any changes of onoms as the solidity in this field may not pass without shaking in the identifying and language system. Those who deal with onomastics and are in favor of place name changes should know and be aware of this axiomatic fact: “Every name is a word, and every word is part of the language system and is realized according to given rules”. So, onymy is a language system and changes in a language system cannot be made mechanically and arbitrarily. The revival of old and ancient toponyms of Middle Ages, of rivers, mountains, provinces, etc., may take place only through dictionaries and other scientific publications, which would offer rich and important information on the history, geography, ethnography, language, etc. The present-day situation in Kosovar regarding toponymy may be called anarchic. The use of two or more forms is present, especially in madd media. This usage is done: a)through arbitrary mixture: Suharekë – Sufrekë – Therandë, Obiliq – Kastriot, etc., and b.) through transfiguration of phonetic and semantic basis: Divjakë – Dyflakë, Obri – Abri, Rahovec – Rahavec, etc. Geographic names should be based in language norm. For this intention a Dictionary of Geographic Names in Kosova should be prepared similar to the one Fjalor i emrave gjeografikë të Republikës së Shqipërisë – (Dictionary of geographic names of the Republic of Albania), (ASHSH, Tiranë, 2002), on standard criteria. Such an undertaking should be carried out by our scientific institutions
