Summary/Abstract: The paper poses the question – what will happen to the Albanian literature in the coming century? The author admits that this is a difficult question as in order to speak about literature for a future time means to run the risk of being exposed to the danger of being denied by literary and scientific reality. The literary output as work of fiction is a spiritual adventure that carries a risk: to be successful or fail. Therefore it’s worth trying to anticipate a future for the Albanian literature in the new century: to anticipate it in thick lines. The Albanian literature in the new century will be a literature that has fully absorbed full freedom: ideological and political limitations which hurt so much after World War Two, during Communism, cannot be repeated. Albanian writers will finally be able to be first and utmost artists: besides their creative conscience they will not be compelled to respond to any one else for their own creative work. However, this does not mean there will not be voluntary slaves! In the new century too, like in Communism, like today, there will be writers who will be willing to accept servitude to this or that ideology, to this or that politics, to this or that government, and their writings will not be a measure for the Albanian literature. Inner, spiritual freedom of Albanian authors will be realized in various ways, through various means and styles in various contents, feelings and philosophies.
