Summary/Abstract: The paper first endeavours to point to the raison d’être of codices, be it of those which refer to all people, be it of those referring to individual professions. The attention is then directed to various elements of medical and teaching codices through which different natures of these two professions are reflected, with a special accent on the interpretation of the main principles of the Socratic Oath.
