Summary/Abstract: In the article, results of the review of a ratio of wall-painted images of animals and hunting remains in the Upper Paleolithic sites of Southern Urals are presented. On the basis of the results of fieldworks of the South-Ural archaeological expedition of the Moscow State University and the published data for Southern Urals, the following picture is developed. Large mammals represented in Kapova and Ignatievskaya caves compose the main part hunting game in the Upper Paleolithic of the region. Most likely, hunting at this time has been focused primary on horses, deers, and bisons, and also incidentally on rhinoceros and mammoth. However, not all animals lived in the region that time were imaged. Authentic images of deers are absent. In parallel, the article provides a comparison with similar reviews on sites in Franco-Cantabria. Comparing main tendencies in choice of animal species for wall-painting in caves in Western Europe and Southern Urals, it is necessary to recognize — the observable obvious similarities and distinctions in choice of leading mammal images represent typical regional variations. This allows tracking a genetic relationship of the Ural area of Paleolithic art with the Franco-Cantabria center.
