Summary/Abstract: The article presents major trends in phraseological research after 1989: - typological, formal-functional descriptions of phraseological units; - inquiries into the changeability of the phraseological resources of language; - analyses of in the ways and aims with which phraseological units are used in literature, journalism and advertizing; - analyses of phraseological units as elements preserving the worldview typical of a given community (categorization, valuation, general tendencies in the organization of the worldview). Clearly, the research is both a continuation and an advancement of the studies from the 1970s and 1980s. As far as the question of the linguistic norm and innovative usage is concerned, it owes very much to the ideas of Professor Halina Kurkowska.
