Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria: advantages and disadvantages to investment

Summary/Abstract: Price policy in the Bulgarian centrally-planned economy was such that the economic indicators were established so as to prove the sensibility of the economic policy. This created a kind of ‘greenhouse effect’ in which the indicators could be directed in such a way as to follow the centralised decisions without contradicting the basic economic postulates. That is why any attempt to investigate the relationship between investment effectiveness and economic output or regional convergence and divergence processes does not make sense if the official statistical figures are used.
