Summary/Abstract: Agricultural development has a specific importance for south-eastern European countries in the process of their integration into EU structures. This has received some attention in discussions and publications. It is expected that, after central and east European countries have joined the EU, the overall increase in GDP of the enlarged EU will be about 3%, while that of agricultural production will be around 1/3 with arable land increasing by 50%. In the light of this, the successful adaptation of the agricultural policies of south-east European (SEE) countries will be one of the decisive factors in the acceleration or delay of the integration of these transition countries into the EU. The goals of this article are: - to analyse what obstacle the agriculture systems of SEE countries have to face in the process of their accession to EU structures - to analyse possible different patterns of agricultural development in south-east Europe. The research work focuses on the following questions: - what are the comparative advantages of agriculture in SEE – from the short and the long-term perspectives? - what are the trade possibilities of SEE with the EU within the framework of the Common Agriculture Policy? - can this Policy be a bottleneck in the process of the accession of SEE countries to EU structures?
