Summary/Abstract: The position and meaning of Modern Romanian sentence adverbs is discussed in the framework of generative syntax. The paper will also discuss some typological and diachronic facts of Romanian as well as English adverbs. The present study proposes an analysis of the position and meaning of sentence adverbs in Romanian in terms of Cinque's feature-based theory and Ernst's adjunct theory trying to unify the syntactic and the semantic accounts.
