Summary/Abstract: The present article was written in the framework of a larger study on different forms of residential segregation. It is based on ethnographic fieldwork and interviews carried out in Şumuleu Ciuc/Csíksomlyó, a village from central Transylvania connected with the city of Miercurea Ciuc/Csíkszereda and having a Hungarian majority. Using this case-study, the article shows how spatial segregation and isolation are produced, and also the role segregation plays in shaping formal and informal everyday strategies in a context where Roma, a minority group, lives at the periphery of the Hungarian majority in this part of Transylvania.
