Astro-Semantic Markers on Ritual Bread

Summary/Abstract: The bread has an important place in Bulgarian culture. As an integral part of the ritual practice (calendar, family) it plays the role of mediator in the communication between the society and the world of its forefathers. The images upon it have not only decorative but also sacral nature and are connected with the traditional human folk notions of space-and-time and the worldview. Structural and functional peculiarities of ritual breads and its decoration could be considered in cosmogonic and cosmologic aspect.
