Summary/Abstract: Bishop and Metropolitan Nicolae Colan was a fi rst-rate fi gure, who raised from a small village came to rule through words and actions the believers in his “fl ock”, Transylvania, and who didn’t leave them even when facing the Second Vienna Award. Being preoccupied with religious issues, as well as with cultural and social matters, Bishop Nicolae Colan managed to offer spiritual food to Roma-nians in Transylvania by means of idyllic poems, press articles, book publications, and, especially, by editing “Viaţa ilustrată” [Life in images] where all the important Romanian fi gures found in the occupied territory of Transylvania collaborated. Beyond these aspects, in the person of Nicolae Colan we fi nd a scholar with an impressive work, who, with his words and actions (and, especially, with his formation—theologian and man of letters), accomplished his mission on Earth. Both the wide variety of themes present in his writings and the number of writings itself lead us to the obser-vation that the list of publications by Nicolae Colan is a great model, whichever the perspective may be, and that the vastness of the themes he undertook is in perfect compliance with the forms and the level of contemporary publications he so brilliantly precedes.
