Summary/Abstract: The success of using information and communication technology (ICT) in private firms has highlighted its potential, which led to special attention from the government to address the new challenges imposed by the information society. This may be why so many government projects are trying to emulate the success that had electronic commerce (e-commerce) by taking the concepts, processes, technologies and business approaches pioneered in the mid 90s. This study identifies factors that contributed to the success of e-commerce and whether they may contribute also to the success of electronic governance.
