Summary/Abstract: The article presents both a synopsis of the European Union’s evolution, as well as an attempt to reflect this evolution conceptually. The paper tries to underline the most important moments of EU construction, beginning with the 1950’s until the present moment. The second part of the paper presents the five institutions which constitute the foundation of the present day organizational structure in the European Union: The European Parliament, The European Commission, The Council of the European Union, The European Court of Justice, The European Court of Auditors.
