Summary/Abstract: The first level of existence of the city in Miron Białoszewski’s works is the topographical concreteness which enables the creation of a biographical and literary map of Warsaw; walking the streets trailing of Białoszewski’s short stories and poems. The link between literature and humanistic research of a city is geopoetics that shows the way in which geography and literary works are combined due to man’s experiencing a place. In a sense, three aspects fuse here: anthropology of the city, literature and everyday life. The second level of the city is space understood as a resultant of interaction. This interaction is defined by human bodies, gestures, words, talks which, at the same time, present in literature relations of space and distances. The third level is a city of the past whose memory continously overlaps with the topographical concrete of space, being a resultant of live interactions. The real map “worn out” by men’s feet is constantly being covered with a net of topographical memories which can be evoked by a specific place, some space, a street. The city is interpreted here as a constituent of two-way relations, human relationships, proxemic references or practices and the past recorded in the memory of the subject or present spaces.
