Summary/Abstract: The article explores the life and work of poet Alice Călugăru, as a paradigmatic example of the passage of the Romanian literature from the traditional cycle, rurally inspired, to the modernist cycle. After a recap of the adventurous life of the poet, the article traces the evolution of her poetry, from the so-called ‘samanatorist’ stage to the phase of modern emancipation, by focusing especially on the sensual and sensualist vision and the imaginative audacity of Alice Călugăru – which made her the most ‘erotic’ and ‘passionate’ poet of all the Romanian literature. The study also underlines the poet’s ambition to become a French writer, an ambition which failed, even though she did manage to publish a novel in France.
