Summary/Abstract: The terminological laxity in the characterization of the information society is associated with the problematic nature of information, knowledge, and society. The concept of information appears in different contexts and holds various meanings in the three main approaches to the information society (that is, in the folk sociological, the scientific-critical, and the postmodern views). Studying the very nature of information and knowledge we can gain a deeper insight into the terminological problems, too.
