Summary/Abstract: On 30 August 2011, in the eve of the European Men’s Basketball Championship, the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania hosted the opening of the exhibition on sports achievements in prewar Lithuania by an impressive name “Stand for the Honour of Lithuania!”. This is the slogan engraved on the gift from the public servants of the Road Board to the Lithuanian national basketball team, the winner of the second European Basketball Championship in 1937. The exhibition under discussion is dedicated to review the passage of sports history of the First Republic of Lithuania in 1918–1940. Its main hero is the sports prize which tells unique stories about basketball players, their successes and failures, progress of games, fan culture and even international conflicts thanks to the organisers of the exhibition. The exhibition is prepared on the basis of the unique and valuable collection of prizes won by the Lithuanian sportsmen in international matches, which is kept in the funds of M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum. The organisers of the exhibition – Dr. Vilma Akmenytė-Ruzgienė, Justina Minelgaitė and Rita Škiudienė – succeeded in showing through the prism of the relation between man, sports and the state how sports became the tool promoting patriotic (self)education in 1918–1940.
