Summary/Abstract: By means of the interview method, Aurelijus Gieda and Robertas Šimkus evaluated the book Latvijas Universitātes Vēstures un filosofijas fakultātes vēsture padomju laikā: Personības, Struktūras, idejas (1944–1991) by Janis Keruss and Ineta Runce which had made its way to the libraries in Latvia in spring 2010. In the form of conversation, the review presents the research carried out by the Latvian historians in their endeavour to highlight the key aspects of the situation of the science of history in Latvia during the Soviet period. The book presents the understanding of socialist realism in Soviet Latvia, the ideological dictatorship and control of the Communist Party, its impact on the socialist life, institutional structures of science, etc. Apart from the said aspects, the aspects of culture, ideas, mentality and daily history are discussed.
