Destruction of the Meaning: The Absurdity

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the absurd expressions and their specific features as a play with the meaning in language. The text tries to present the mechanisms, upon which they are built, using the methodology of cognitive grammar developed by the American linguist Roland Langaker. I have tried to define the absurdity in language and to distinguish it from paradox, metaphor and error, all of which show some similar features. The analysis is built on jokes published in the Internet and examples from linguistic surveys.
