Summary/Abstract: This book's research topic is constitutional law, i.e. legal norms and its relations to the position of women throughout the history. However, the promise from the title remains mostly unfulfilled, as assumed book's subject is reduced to family and functions within this structure exclusively, therefore, to an object. The author analyses women-related legal acts, which were, in accordance with the era (and customs) framed and limited to their reproductive function, and through the institute of marriage and family. Thus, she brings a number of interesting documents on legal position of women in ancient times (Babylon, Athens, Rome), through early and developed middle ages, till legal position of women in modern (European) societies. For sure, this part will be of interest to readers, as these documents are less known and rarely published outside narrow scientific circles. The last book section is on Croatian laws, particularly on family law. For the better part of the book, there are examples of judiciary through history till modern times (book even includes the latest regulations of the Croatian family law, and some other laws, passed in the last couple of years). However, it lacks any critical analysis, so that the attitudes from the introductory part remain the guiding light. Namely, in introduction, the institution of family is understood as an unchangeable social norm. The way it reaches the modern times through centuries of male hierarchy (examples of legal norms through centuries confirm this thesis), remains untouched in its basis, and unfortunately unquestionable in this book. It is regarded as almost natural, and it is only about struggle for improvement of position of women within family framework in modern times.
