Summary/Abstract: In the context of globalization, FDI is the engine of economic development and a unique way for connecting to the free market economic system, the creation of effective promotion policies proving to be useful amid increased competition. The purpose of this paper is to present national policies on foreign direct investment regime in Central and Eastern Europe, with a special interest for Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovenia, focusing on several fundamental issues: (1) What are the mechanisms and instruments used to support a policy around FDI? (2) What are the rationales for a policy that is promoted to attract foreign direct investment? (3) What is the impact on FDI?
